Students Stories

1. Miss Edith has been teaching my kids Igbo for a few years now and we've found her to be patient, reliable, and genuinely passionate about passing on the language to the younger generation. She's super flexible when schedules change unexpectedly and very understanding of school and family commitments. Her lessons are fun and engaging, using songs, quizzes, and interactive techniques to keep the children interested. In my view she is more than just a teacher, she instils cultural pride and values, which we really appreciate. Miss Edith is professional but also warm and approachable, which makes the kids relaxed and comfortable. Overall, we're so grateful for her dedication throughout the years and I wouldn't recommend anyone else.

2. I started learning Igbo around April this year, and it has truly been one of the best decisions I've made. From the very beginning, She made the entire experience welcoming, enjoyable, and encouraging. She has so much patience and a beautiful way of breaking things down, which made learning feel less intimidating and more exciting. Every lesson felt like progress, not just in speaking the language but also in connecting with the culture. She always created a safe space where mistakes were part of the journey, and that gave me the confidence to keep going. I'm so grateful for her kindness, dedication, and the genuine passion she puts into teaching. Learning Igbo with her has been both fun and deeply rewarding, and I would absolutely recommend her to anyone who wants to learn.

I spent 6 weeks in person learning Igbo with Edith, along with having a few lessons online with her prior to meeting in person. After my time, I was able to have basic conversations in Igbo. The classes aren't structured in a way that most Western language classes are structured, but Edith is very resourceful and able to make sure you learn what's important very quickly. Edith was able to adapt to my learning style very quickly and teach me the specific dialect I was focused on, while making sure I learned Central Igbo as well. She was not only able to teach me grammar, but also the cultural nuances for why certain words were used in one case over another. As a result of this it helped me connect things I have seen growing up in my life but never had a solid understanding or appreciation for. Igbo is such a philosophical language, and I feel to really teach/learn and appreciate it, you have to also have an understanding of the cultural practices along with how life was perceived (when the language was initially formed). Edith has these skills, and I have recommended her to friends and family. I will continue to take classes with her in the future.
